Habits overview
Why habits in Steer are about rhythm and prediction, not daily checklists.
2 min read
Steer's habits aren't a wall of daily checkboxes. They're for life's recurring stuff — the things that don't fit a daily streak but absolutely ambush you when you forget: the haircut, the dentist, the car service, the quarterly deep-clean.
You log something once or twice, Steer learns its rhythm, and then it predicts the next one before it sneaks up on you.
The problem habits solve
A haircut isn't a daily habit you tick off. It's a roughly-every-five-weeks thing you keep meaning to book. Traditional habit apps can't help with that — they only do "every day". Steer is built for exactly this in-between rhythm.
How it works, in short
Log it when it happens
Got a haircut? Tap to log it. That's all Steer needs to start.
Steer learns the rhythm
After a couple of logs, Steer works out the cadence — "about every 5 weeks" — and how confident it is.
It predicts the next one
Steer shows when the next occurrence is likely due, with a confidence score, and surfaces it in your Brief before it's late.
You schedule it, then verify it
Tap Confirm to mark the predicted occurrence as scheduled. When the day comes, Steer asks you to verify it actually happened — only then does it count. Or just Log it yourself, on any date. More on this.
It can fill itself in
The best part: if you connect your calendar, Steer can detect habits from your past events — spotting that you see the dentist twice a year or get a haircut every month — and offer them as simple toggles to confirm. No typing, no setup.
Included free
Calendar sync and habit detection are free. It's one of the fastest ways to make Steer useful on day one.
Where you see your habits
The Habits screen lists each habit with its rhythm, a status chip (on track, due soon, overdue or slipping) and a next-occurrence prediction. You can sort, filter and dig into each one's history of strikes — see Tracking your rhythm. Anything coming due also appears in your Daily Brief under "coming up", so you stay ahead of it.
