Adding a habit

Add a habit from a recipe or your own history, and log it whenever it happens.

There are three easy ways to start tracking a habit. Pick whichever is least effort for you.

1. From a recipe

Tap the global "+" button (or New habit on the Habits screen) and choose from common recipes:

  • "Haircut — about every 5 weeks"
  • "Dentist — twice a year"
  • "Gym — 3× a week"
  • "Car service — yearly"

Each recipe comes with a sensible starting rhythm already filled in. Tap one and you're tracking.

2. From your calendar

If you've connected Google Calendar, Steer scans your past events and detects habits automatically — recurring haircuts, regular check-ups, that monthly meetup. Detected habits appear as toggles to confirm: flip the ones you want to keep, and Steer adds them with the rhythm it already learned from your history. Zero typing.

Tip

This is the fastest possible setup — connect your calendar and a whole set of habits appears, ready to confirm.

3. From scratch

Prefer to build your own? You'll make a couple of quick choices:

Name it

A short title, with suggested chips so you can usually skip typing.

Set a starting rhythm (optional)

If you already know roughly how often it happens — every 5 weeks, twice a year — set it. If not, leave it; Steer will learn the rhythm as you log.

Log the last time it happened

Giving Steer one recent date kick-starts the prediction.

Logging an occurrence

Whenever the habit happens, log it in a tap. Each log is a dated event, and every one sharpens Steer's sense of your rhythm. Over time the predictions get more confident.

If the habit was already on your connected calendar, you may not even need to log it — Steer can pick it up from the event.

Confirming a prediction

When Steer thinks a habit is due, it shows up as a gentle prompt. Did it happen? Confirm with one tap and Steer records it and rolls the prediction forward. Nothing to re-type.
