Habits from your calendar

How Steer spots recurring events and proposes them as habits — and how to accept, dismiss, remove a proposal, or what happens when you delete a habit.

3 min read

Once your calendar is connected, Steer reads your past events and looks for the things you do on a regular rhythm — a haircut every few weeks, a class each Monday, a check-up twice a year. When it spots one, it proposes it as a habit for you to review. Steer never creates a habit on its own.

Tip

Don't see any proposals? Make sure your calendar is connected, then open Habits and tap Detect from calendar.

How Steer decides what to propose

Steer groups events that share the same name and looks at how regularly they repeat. To become a proposal, an event needs to:

  • happen a few times (one-offs are ignored),
  • repeat on a recognisable rhythm, and
  • not already be one of your habits.

The more regular and frequent the pattern, the more confident Steer is — and the higher up the list it appears.

Reviewing your proposals

Proposed habits show up in a "Proposed from your calendar" panel at the top of your Habits page. Tap it to expand. Each card tells you:

  • the name Steer picked (from the event title),
  • how often it recurs and how many times it's been seen,
  • when it was last seen.

Tap the small calendar icon in the corner of a card to see the exact events behind the proposal.

Accept, dismiss, or remove

Accept

Turns the proposal into a real habit and fills in its past occurrences from your calendar, so its rhythm and predictions start populated straight away.

Dismiss

Hides a proposal you don't want. It moves to a Dismissed list (so you can change your mind later), and Steer won't propose it again.

Remove

Deletes a dismissed proposal for good. Because Steer no longer remembers it, the same events may be proposed again on your next scan. Use this only if you want a clean slate.

Heads up

Dismiss is what keeps a suggestion hidden for good. Remove simply forgets it — so it can come back the next time Steer scans your calendar.

Changing your mind

Made a mistake? Open the Dismissed list inside the proposals panel — you can Accept a dismissed proposal to turn it into a habit after all, or Remove it.

To look for new patterns at any time, tap Detect from calendar (or Re-scan).

What happens when you delete a habit

If you delete a habit that came from your calendar, Steer stops tracking those events — so the same pattern can be proposed again on a later scan. That's by design: deleting a habit is a clean reset, not a permanent block. If you never want to see it again, dismiss the proposal instead of deleting the habit.

Linking an existing habit to your calendar

Already have a habit and want Steer to pull in its calendar events? Open the habit's history and tap Match calendar. Steer links matching events — ones in the past are logged as done, and upcoming ones are added as scheduled. Anything that doesn't belong is one tap to remove.
